Unlock your leadership potential with 3Cs - the first, Curiosity

Updated: Jan 16, 2023

Curiosity is a core pillar in leadership and its development. Curiosity makes leaders humble and open to continuous learning whether it is hard or soft skills. To cultivate my curiosity and shift from being a knower to a learner, I will do the following in my daily interaction at work with all levels of colleagues.

First of all, I will practice active listening and start with questions. As growing in my career, broad areas of work are being given so it will not be possible to have the expertise for all areas. Hence, rather than pretending to understand or direct, I will open my mind to new ideas and suggestions and pay enough attentions that provide an opportunity to validate my assumptions and understanding of the topic.

Secondly, I will check my body posture and try not to use a mobile phone or something else. When I looked back on my posture during the meeting with my team members, I checked emails or looked at other urgent incoming messages.

Finally, I will be ready for new topics and show my curiosity by searching for more information or digesting reading materials before the meeting or discussion. In case I want to know more about the topic, I can reach out already to colleagues before the discussion and meeting.

In summary, I suggest myself do the following actions that will lead to being curious at work. Practice active listening and ask more questions, pay attention to non-verbal communication of myself, prepare beforehand and seek new knowledge and information.
